Hello friends & comrades,

Apologies for the long delay between posts - like many others around the world, we’ve been swept up in the urgent global struggle to end Israel’s genocidal invasion of Gaza (and the illegal occupation of Palestine).

As many of you know, for the last couple of months, we have been working on building an audio archive of the Justice for Palestine movement here in Magan-djin / Meanjin / so-called brisbane. We’ve been heading along to rallies, protests, occupations, public meetings and discussions. We’ve been learning the best way to record amplified sound on a windy day in the rain (that’s a joke, all the ways are bad); how to record for an hour in the sun without getting heatstroke; how to keep showing up, week after week, fueled by a shared commitment to honouring the strength of the people sharing their grief and rage and heartbreak, and respecting the lessons they are teaching us.

Each week, we package it all up, the sweat and tears and rage and solidarity, and we play it on the radio. We talk with the people who spoke at the protests, asking if they’re comfortable sharing their voices with this broader audience. We listen to their insights over and over as we edit, carefully creating an audio archive of this movement. It is slow work, this tiny part of the massive global struggle for Palestine; a struggle that stretches beyond Gaza to every place that has been shaped by centuries of resistance to settler colonialism, racism, climate destruction, capitalism, heteropatriarchy, and domination in all its forms and disguises.

As you can imagine - all of that recording doesn’t leave a lot of time for the slower, more creative work of putting it all together as a podcast. And so in the meantime, we wanted to invite you all to join us for a very special LIVE recording of one of the podcast discussions that will eventually be released as part of this series.

I am sure that many of you, like us, have been watching with great interest as the case brought by South Africa against Israel in the International Court of Justice unfolds. The case charges the state of Israel with genocide, and asks the ICJ to take provisional measures to prevent further atrocities from being committed. The landmark case began hearings on the 11th January 2024, and an interim judgment is expected within weeks (though a permanent judgment could take many years).

To make sense of the significance of this case - both legally and politically - we have invited an absolutely extraordinary line-up of scholar activists, academics, writers & lawyers who’ve been watching the case closely. Alongside Brisbane Free University & Justice for Palestine - Meanjin, we’ll be hosting a live webinar on Wednesday 17th January from 12 - 1.30pm AEST. You can register for the webinar here: https://uqz.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZ0ucO2gqjwvH9FsULc8CVExFb2U1L1hpyYH

If you can’t make it to the webinar live, never fear! The recording will be broadcast on Radio Reversal on 4zzz from 9am - 10am on Thursday 17th January, and will be re-released as part of the Justice for Palestine x Radio Reversal podcast.

Speakers:
Dr Randa Abdel-Fattah is a prominent Australian Palestinian advocate and multi award-winning author of 11 books, including young adult and children’s books as well as academic writings.

Dr. Amy McQuire is a Darumbal & South Sea Islander academic, journalist, podcaster and writer. Amy has been a long-term supporter of the struggle for Palestinian liberation, and is particularly concerned with the complicity of mainstream media in failing to report the truth about the genocide in Gaza.

Sara M Saleh is a writer, human rights lawyer, organiser, and the daughter of migrants from Palestine, Egypt, and Lebanon.

Ruba Rayan is a Palestinian lawyer & human rights advocate living in so-called Brisbane.

The discussion will be facilitated by Dr. Jamal Nabulsi, a Palestinian academic, writer, community organiser and rapper, and one of the spokespeople and organisers for Justice for Palestine Meanjin.

SO! Follow the links above and register for the webinar on Wednesday! And please share the tile below on social media to help us get the word out to others!

For now, we’ll look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday, and thankyou for your patience with us as we slowly pull together the Justice for Palestine podcast!

In solidarity & struggle,

Anna, Han, Nat & the Radio Reversal Collective
